What attracted me to Durham University?

Durham University stood out because of its collegiate system and strong academic reputation. Additionally, Durham’s global ranking and the triple-accredited status of Durham University Business School (AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS) reinforced my decision. I wanted to study in an institution recognized for its academic excellence and industry relevance.

Durham’s colleges provide more than just accommodation—they create a close-knit community where students can engage in social events, academic discussions, and extracurricular activities. This structure has made my experience more fulfilling, offering a strong support system and an opportunity to interact with students from various backgrounds.

Studying MSc Finance at Durham

My experience at Durham University Business School has been both enriching and rewarding. I have enjoyed all the modules offered in my programme, each providing valuable insights into finance and investment. The career talks organized by the Business School have been particularly beneficial, offering direct exposure to industry professionals and career paths. Additionally, the Certificate in Engagement with Practice has been a great opportunity to develop practical skills in Python and other financial software, which are essential for a career in finance.

Beyond academics, I have particularly enjoyed being part of the MSc Investment Club, where I’ve had the opportunity to discuss investment strategies, market trends, and financial analysis techniques with like-minded students. Engaging in these discussions and sharing different perspectives has helped me refine my approach to investing while learning from others with diverse experiences and viewpoints.

Receiving a Business School scholarship

Receiving a Masters Achievement Scholarship award has allowed me to focus entirely on my studies without additional pressure. More importantly, the scholarship has motivated me to make the most of my time at Durham by engaging with the academic resources, career services, and industry opportunities available to students.

My top tips for studying at Durham University Business School

My advice would be to make full use of the university’s resources. Attending career talks, participating in networking events, and engaging with alumni can provide valuable industry insights and career opportunities. Durham offers a wide range of opportunities, and taking a proactive approach can significantly enhance both academic and professional development.

What’s next?

Following my master’s, I plan to pursue a career in investment banking, applying the knowledge and skills I have developed at Durham. The academic experience, combined with the support from the Business School, the scholarship, and my involvement in the MSc Investment Club, has provided me with a strong foundation for the future. My time at Durham has been both enriching and rewarding, and I am confident that it has prepared me well for the next stage of my career.
