This year has been an incredible journey of both personal and professional transformation. My time pursuing an MSc in Business Analytics at Durham University has been defined by a constant push to bridge the gap between complex data theory and real-world strategy, and I am proud to share that this culminated in a truly unforgettable experience during our International Field Trip in Lausanne, Switzerland.

What made the hackathon such a defining moment

The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the hackathon hosted at the Swiss Data Science Center. My team tackled the challenge of analysing ESG language evolution across S&P 100 companies, and through intense collaboration and rigorous technical analysis, we were thrilled to secure first place. This victory was a validation of the hard work we have put into our studies and served as a powerful reminder of what is possible when data-driven insights meet effective teamwork.

How Lausanne expanded my thinking beyond the competition

Beyond the competition, we immersed ourselves in the academic and professional landscape at the University of Lausanne (UNIL). Engaging in lectures on AI business implications, the future of entrepreneurship, and advanced data visualization provided me with new frameworks for problem-solving that I am eager to apply moving forward. We also had the privilege of visiting Medtronic, where seeing innovation and analytics applied in a global healthcare context offered invaluable perspectives on how organizations drive tangible, societal impact.

Why stepping away from the work mattered just as much

Outside of the classroom and the lab, the opportunity to explore Switzerland with friends and experience new cultures added a profound layer of depth to this experience. Stepping back from the technical grind allowed for a broader perspective that has made me not only a better analyst but a more well-rounded professional.

What I am taking with me beyond Durham

As my time in the UK begins to wind down, I find myself deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me, pushed me, and been part of this journey. The lessons learned and the connections made in Lausanne are experiences I will carry with me throughout my career.
